News in a Pinch!
You hired someone. Why is it all still coming back to you?
There’s a particular feeling that turns up about six months after you make the hire you’d been putting off. The admin’s handled, the inbox is under control, and somehow the decisions still land on your desk and the client still asks for you. You start to wonder if you’re the one who can’t let go. You’re not. Shona Joy had a CEO for nine years and it still needed its founder in Sydney. The hire didn’t fail, it just wasn’t pointed at the part that’s actually holding you. Here are the six questions that find it.
“Why not sell?”, and “ it’s smart not to sell”, are the same answer
Shona Joy is profitable, in 32 countries, and closing after 26 years. Under one of the LinkedIn posts, two comments sat a few lines apart. One asked why not sell. The other said it was smart not to. They think they’re disagreeing, and they’re not, because the thing a buyer would have been buying was Shona herself, and Shona is the thing Shona is trying to step away from. Handing over the running of a business and the business not needing you are two different things, and that’s the part worth taking away.
